Welcome to your new graduate assistantship appointment at Iowa State University!

Your department or program has likely communicated their training plans and schedule with you. To supplement what your department provides, the Graduate College Professional Development Team have worked closely with experts at the Dean of Students Office to create classroom scenarios for you to consider. You are invited to attend Classroom Scenarios: Teaching Assistant Training. This online workshop will provide you with the tools and resources you need to be successful in your new role.

What will you learn? 

  • Policies, practices, and resources for effective teaching and learning at Iowa State University. 
  • Potential challenges to student success and various campus resources for student support. 
  • Graduate College services, support, and development opportunities available to teaching assistants. 

What will you do? 

  • Work with other TAs in breakout rooms to solve potential classroom scenarios on various topics such as academic integrity, classroom management, and inclusivity. 
  • You will have the opportunity to ask questions and get advice from a panel of Dean of Students Office (DSO) experts. 

This workshop is for you if: 

  • You are a new TA at Iowa State University 
  • You have received a teaching assignment different from what you have done before 
  • You are interested in learning more about effective teaching practices 
  • You are looking for resources to help you succeed in your new role
